My long range astrological forecast for 2020 encourages me to create a “sturdier, more vigorous connection” with Spirit so that I can keep transforming myself into the “radiant soul I want to become”.
Heady stuff. I’m used to entering the New Year with lists of what I will and won’t eat, how many times a week I commit to working out, and the usual Girl Scout pledges to be kinder and better prepared.
But it has been written that in the dark times even the Oracle won’t be able to predict the future, so how are we to be prepared? From sea levels rising? From our forests burning? Yes I can keep a go bag by the door, but forces have been unleashed that I am helpless to put back in the genie’s bottle.
Preparedness now means an utter reliance on any wisdom and guidance I am able to glean from Spirit, hunkering down before dawn in my pjs and slippers, first cup of coffee, candles burning. Preparedness means opening myself through meditation, prayer, writing, to hear the voice within.
The I Ching: Genius is the ability to receive from the cosmos. Think Einstein who credits a dream with the theory of relativity. Ditto Paul McCartney who downloaded Yesterday while asleep. This is the left side smarty pants part of the brain unplugged so that the blinding flash of creativity can stream to us from the Source. This is the kind of preparedness I’m preparing for.
There are no longer any maps pointing to a safe place, no geographical fix that will protect us from the relentless fallout from climate crisis. Pema Chodron: This is what the Buddhists call groundlessnesss. No solid ground that doesn’t have mineral rights under it someone may shoot us to own. No clean air, water, soil; Monsanto has been illegally spraying Roundup on Maui for years. Everything we cling to for security gives way under our feet.
I don’t mean to be a downer, I really don’t. What I’m saying is that when I contemplate 2020 and all the possible resolutions that lay themselves out before me like a 52 card spread….the King still lusting after riches, the Queen still spending frivolously on anti-aging serums, the Jack who doesn’t do jack, and the Joker…well, the Joker is stepping off the cliff with arms raised to the sky in praise, prepared with nothing but his absolute trust in the unknown, sure that when he launches into the air, the eagles will give him wings and point him in the right direction.
There is no other way to face the greed and destruction that assaults us daily in the news, on social media. There is no other way to quell the panic except to remove myself, light candles, invoke Spirit and listen with every sincere cell and molecule of my being asking for help.
And always what I hear is that we have been tasked with holding the light in the darkness. No, what I mean to say is being the light. And that means healing from the remnants of our childhood wounding that has kept us in a trance, dissociated, confused, at the end of a leash held tight by all the old expectations that have diminished us. What I hear is that my light is the second coming, the godhead shining in the dark. What I hear is that this requires forgiving myself, loving myself into a new state of consciousness, one where I am prepared because I’m hooked up, listening.
May the new year offer you the time and space to rekindle your connection to Spirit, and may your light continue to shine like a beacon in the darkness. May we all grow kinder, gentler, slower, and may we hold close the truth that love always wins
Immerse yourself in its particulars.
Respond to this person, this challenge, this deed.
Stop giving yourself needless trouble.
It is time to really live; to fully inhabit the situation you happen to be in now.
You are not some disinterested bystander.
Ask yourself often, How may I perform this particular deed
such that it would be consistent with and acceptable to the divine will?
Heed the answer and get to work.
The will of nature is within you as your natural genius is within.
Listen to its importunings.
Follow its directives.
No great thing is created suddenly.
There must be time.
